Water and Flood Damage Claim FAQs
How much can I expect to get from my water damage insurance claim?
Generally speaking, for water damage covered by your policy, you can expect to be reimbursed for all of your repair and replacement fees, minus your deductible and up to a maximum of your coverage limit. We advise homeowners to carry insurance that covers the amount of their property and belongings.
What types of water damage can I claim?
Typical water losses covered under most property policies include broken pipes, appliance leaks, sewage backup, and water coming in through the roof or side of the house due to heavy or driven rain. Ground and surface water are rarely covered in areas that are not flood prone.
Will throwing away items that are damaged by water affect my claim?
Yes, it will. Do not throw away damaged items until a trusted claims adjuster inspects your home. Put them in a secure area where they will not be prone to theft or further damage. It is unlikely you will be reimbursed for any items you throw away.
